MARAC Archivist

TERM OF OFFICE

Per Section 8 of the MARAC Bylaws, the University of Maryland (UMD) Libraries shall formally designate a member of its professional staff as MARAC Archivist, under terms and conditions spelled out in a formal agreement signed in 2009 by the Chair of the Conference and the Dean of Libraries at the University of Maryland.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The MARAC Archivist works with relevant MARAC officers, particularly the MARAC Archives Coordinator, to insure that records of ongoing value are appropriately identified and transferred to the MARAC Archives when such records become non-current.

Accessions new records into the Archives and, in coordination with other professional staff at the UMD Libraries, insures that appropriate arrangement and description, preservation, and digitization work associated with the Archives is being accomplished.

Facilitates public awareness of and use of MARAC records.

Prepares periodic updates to the MARAC Finding Aid.

Provides reference support to MARAC Officers, the Steering Committee, and the MARAC membership who make use of the Archives.

The MARAC Archivist may also serve as the MARAC Archives Coordinator.
